Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” heralding the return of Jason Momoa’s aquatic DC hero after a five-year wait. Aquaman is finally surfing into theaters once again.
About movie:(Aquaman and the lost Kingdom)
In the sequel, titled “Lost Kingdom,” we follow Momoa’s Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman, a hero of both human and Atlantean heritage, now reigning as the monarch of Atlantis. Teaming up with his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson), they confront the merciless pirate Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).
Black Manta, driven by the desire for revenge after failing to defeat Aquaman previously and avenge his father’s death, is relentless in his pursuit to finally bring down Aquaman.
In this encounter, Black Manta wields the formidable power of the mythical Black Trident, unleashing an ancient and malevolent force. To overcome this threat, Aquaman seeks the aid of his imprisoned brother Orm, the ex-King of Atlantis, forming an unexpected alliance.
Together, they put aside their differences, aiming to safeguard their kingdom, rescue Aquaman’s family, and prevent irreversible destruction to the world.
Additionally, alongside Momoa, Wilson, and Abdul-Mateen, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Temuera Morrison, Willem Dafoe, and Dolph Lundgren will reprise their characters from the initial film. Randall Park reprises his role as Dr. Stephen Shin, having made a brief appearance in the first movie. Vincent Regan, Indya Moore, and Pilou Asbæk are newcomers to the cast. James Wan resumes his position as the director for the sequel, while David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is the scriptwriter.
The film is drawing significant attention as it marks Heard’s first major project following the highly publicized defamation trial with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, last year. Throughout the trial, Heard asserted that the studio reduced her role in the aftermath of her divorce from Depp, leading to substantial online harassment. She revealed earning $1 million for the initial “Aquaman” and $2 million for the sequel, despite her role being significantly scaled back.
Wan clarified to Entertainment Weekly that the sequel for “Aquaman” was initially planned to center around the relationship between Arthur and Orm. He stated, “I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go.
The first ‘Aquaman’ was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie.”
The “Aquaman” sequel is the fourth DC movie to be released this year, following underwhelming debuts of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” “The Flash,” and “Blue Beetle.” As DC Studios undergoes a reboot led by co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, there’s no official announcement yet about Aquaman’s or Momoa’s role in the upcoming slate, leaving fans curious about their involvement in the evolving DC Universe.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is scheduled for release on December 20, 2023. Stay tuned for the trailer!
