The Japanese automotive giant, Toyota Motor Corporation, has been reported to be working on a brand new SUV for the Indian market. The company recently revealed that it is planning to increase its production capacity with a third plant in India. So, this new SUV, which has been reported to be a “mini” iteration of the popular Land Cruiser model, will be an anchor product for this new plant. Most likely, this new SUV will be taking on the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar in India.

New Toyota SUV: XUV700 rival

According to Reuters, this new C-segment SUV would sit between the Innova Hycross hybrid MPV and the current mid-size SUV, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. According to rumours, the 340D codename applies to this new SUV that is now in development. We probably won’t see this “mini” Land Cruiser SUV until the beginning of 2026. Additionally, it has been revealed that the business has not yet made a definitive choice about the start of manufacturing of this specific SUV.

According to rumours, Toyota does not anticipate seeing many sales of this new model. According to rumours, the business is collaborating with suppliers to build over 60,000 of these SUVs at its third factory in India. In addition, the corporation will probably import components from other foreign markets to the new factory in India for assembly if it decides to finally introduce this product there. Toyota India’s third plant

As indicated above, the Toyota Motor Corporation reportedly intends to build a third facility in India. The company, through its relationship with Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has been experiencing a significant increase in demand for new automobiles, which led to the decision to do this. In India, the Innova Hycross hybrid, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the New Glanza are all selling like hotcakes.

The company presently has a total capacity of about 4,00,000 units across its two manufacturing facilities in India. With the construction of a third facility, the business hopes to boost capacity by about 1,20,000. The capacity of this new plant’s manufacturing might be increased to 2,00000 units, according to reports. Before the end of this decade, Toyota is reportedly planning to raise its annual output to 5,000 vehicles.

These rumours about the Japanese automaker wanting to build a third facility have surfaced as the business prepares to step up its marketing efforts in India. Metrics show that the company’s expansion in the European and North American markets is slowing down. According to reports, this new factory will be constructed in Bidadi, Karnataka, on the same site as the company’s two existing units.
